Wing Tie-Down Rings

Originally, I was going to replace the top bolt attaching the wing strut to the solid aluminum bracket with an eye bolt, and use that as a tie-down ring. But I realized that since the strut was already attached to the wing, it would be rather difficult to remove that bolt in order to do the replacement, so I had to come up with a different solution. I found some U-bolts at a local hardware store that were the perfect width, so I cut off the threads and welded them to a couple of AN970 washers. Our EAA chapter has a powder coating kit and a small oven, so I powder coated them and then installed them. Total time from start to finish was 5 hours, including the powder coating!

Total Time: 5.0 hrs.
